Pink Lady on Side

Oil Red Apple Still Life Painting Fruit Kitchen Art

Oil on Raymar panel, 6" x 8".

I guess I'm enjoying seeing and enjoying rich, bright colors on everyday subjects lately like this apple. It's backlit and painted from a somewhat different angle - on its side with its bottom playing a prominent part in the scene.

Bananas in Bowl

Oil Fruit Still Life Painting Blue Rimmed Bowl Kitchen Art

Oil on hardboard panel 5" x 7".

Three bananas were resting in a shallow blue-rimmed bowl and holding together nicely in the spotlight. This is a favorite still life of bananas that I painted a few years ago and it tells me why I will always love to paint fruit with color and passion (and anything in bowls as far as that goes).

Sunflower Still Life

Oil Flower Still Life Painting Floral Vase Garden Art

Oil on Raymar panel, 10" x 8".

I was in the mood to spin the color wheel when I painted this still life with a sunflower as the star performer. It brightened up a dreary winter day for me and I was energized for a while. That energy suddenly seemed to make my strokes of paint thicker and more decisive. It's fun to get enough paint in place and be able to carve through it again later. You also can't be in a bad mood while experiencing a sunflower taking shape on your canvas. Let the pigments loose! Or, something like that. :)

Orange Slices

Oil Still Life Painting Fruit Kitchen Art

Watercolor on paper, 8" x 10".

I'm reposting this painting from a few years ago which I was very happy with and still like to view. A watercolor of peeled orange slices and some curling orange rind in the background. Orange and blue playing against each other and a favorite fruit included!

Snow Bunny

Oil Painting Wildlife Animal Art Rabbit Hare Winter Landscape

Oil on masonite board, 10" x 8".

This rabbit appears somewhat camouflaged with its coloring being so similar to the snowy landscape. I painted this from a photo my daughter took near her home in KC. I thought about the rabbit pausing a while before wandering along to another good place to stop and think I suppose. I also thought it was such a cute pose!

Home in Provence

Oil Landscape Art House Portrait France Patio Pool Deck

Oil on stretched canvas, 11" x 14".

This was such a great house to paint in the middle of the snowy winter weather many of us are having. My client wanted a painting of her parents' house in Provence to surprise them with as a gift. She says she likes the colorful and sunny mood of the painting which reminds her of this region in France. And I enjoyed painting it very much!

Daybreak

Rooster Oil Painting Farm Animal Art Chicken Fowl

Oil on stretched canvas, 12" x 12" x 3/4".

An energetic and colorful rooster is stretching his wings in anticipation of another day. The background has some mystery and I want the viewers to envision where they think he is. He could be walking on pavement in a neighborhood on a Polynesian island or walking near the edge of a body of water. That was just a couple of ideas I had while painting him.
This painting is on a canvas that is stapled in the back and the sides are painting making it ready to hang unframed if desired.

Please stay tuned. I will soon have new paintings to post along with some exciting commissions on which I've been working diligently. If you would like a commissioned animal portrait please contact me. Thanks for looking!

Ladybug Luck

Oil Still Life Painting Bug Flower Garden

Oil on board, 2.5" x 3.5".

Bright and cheerful Ladybugs are always welcome in gardens and on our hands, arms, hats, etc. I'm thankful for their gentle presence and gorgeous, colorful bodies and I don't like to see them leave. The Ladybug painting is one of many ACEO paintings I painted from which I learned a great deal. They helped me immensely with painting form and details quickly. I want to return to the lessons learned as much as I can.

This painting is sold, but if you'd like, I'd love to paint this Lady again for you in a larger size. Thanks for stopping by!

Red Hollyhocks

Watercolor Still Life Painting Flower Garden Art

Watercolor on Arches, 11.25" x 8".

Striking old-fashioned hollyhocks will be blooming profusely again in another five months and I'm looking forward to it! That seems like a long time from now. My flower patches are buried under several inches of snow, but that should be melted in a few days fortunately. I love to paint heat-loving hollyhocks in cold winter months, and I especially love painting them in watercolor.

Squash Blossom Study

Watercolor Still Life Painting Vegetable Flowers Garden Art

Watercolor on paper, 6.5" x 4.5".

This small study was a fast and flowing painting of an unfolding squash blossom painted last summer in watercolor and watercolor pencil. Getting right to the heart of the color and form in this type of floral painting is what is so exciting and rewarding! (Cropping also comes in handy).

Casual Gerbera Daisy

Oil Still Life Flower Painting Garden Organic Art

Oil on Raymor panel, 10" x 12".

I purchased some very large Gerbera Daisies to paint and this was the first arrangement I went to work on for a still life. The flower was painted in a chunky soup cup and I loved the colors of the shadows and half-tones that resulted from the lighting. I'm still trying to keep a few blooms fresh in the fridge for more paintings. Good intentions.

Red Pair Study

Oil Still Life Painting Garden Fruit Organic Art

Oil on canvas board, 7" x 9".

Back to painting pears again - this time on a checkered cloth and sunlit from a window. I enjoy finding different approaches to the same subjects. I intend to do more of these kinds of quick studies because I learn from them hopefully and also I can usually have fun without that pesky pressure that comes from me of course.

Australian Shepherd

Pet Art Oil Dog Paintings Herding Animals

Oil on stretched canvas, 10" x 8" x 3/4".

"Animated, adaptable and agile, the Australian Shepherd lives for his job, which still involves herding livestock and working as an all-purpose farm and ranch dog. He needs a lot of activity and a sense of purpose to be truly content". That's a short description of the Aussie - a very lovely dog in my opinion! What fun it was to paint the colors and features of this particular Australian Shepherd that I photographed last fall at a local festival.

Her Summer Hat

Oil Portrait Figure Female Model People

Oil on stretched canvas, 11" x 14" x 3/4".

I finally finished this portrait study that I've been working on a little at a time for a while. She has a friendly face and nice smile. I kept the areas surrounding her face loose and sketchy and was happy with the result of the portrait. With all of the very cold weather upon us, I'm wishing I could put on a big hat and head out into the sun right about now.

Junior

Oil Pet Art Portraits Bunny Rabbit Painting Wildlife Animals

Oil on stretched canvas, 14" x 11".

Jr. was a commissioned portrait and he is obviously a house bunny. I thought that the angle of his head and ears was very attractive and seemed to exude some great rabbit character. Lots of color mixing and mingling happening in his fur also made it fun.

Field of Pansies

Oil Painting Flowers Garden Organic Botanical Landscape

Oil on Raymar panel, 10" x 12".

I intended to portray a large expanse of brightly-toned pansies receding into the distance and seen from their level. This is how I imagine a "field" of pansies would look - with random and intertwining shapes.

Tomato Halves

Oil Still Life Painting Garden Vegetables Roma Salad Organic

Oil on Raymar panel, 6" x 8".

It's after Christmas and I'm painting red and green. I love painting tomatoes whole or sliced and placing them in a dark green bowl creates some extra visual excitement. Roma tomato halves make interesting, solid shapes also. I'm looking forward to many more paintings in the new year!

Still Water and Heron

Oil Bird Art Wildlife Paintings Wetlands Blue Pond

Oil on stretched canvas, 10" x 8" x 3/4".

We see blue herons near the wetlands where I live in Arkansas and I've tried several times to get photos of one before it leaves the scene and I've had no luck. But a friend captured one beautifully and I painted this heron from her photo. It was such a serene setting with the big bird in the still, shallow water which reflected the lovely blue sky. The bright sunlight made deep, interesting shadows and I knew I wanted to paint it. Thanks, Jeanette!

Blue Jay in Winter

Oil Bird Art Wildlife Paintings Backyard

Oil on canvas board, 9" x 7".

Blue Jays puff themselves out in the winter because of the cold. This guy made a lovely subject to paint and I included some red holly berries for more of a winter atmosphere. When I finished, he seemed to glow among the greenery. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! I wish to thank all of my wonderful collectors who have corresponded with me, shared my love of art, and purchased my paintings for themselves or others in the last few years. Daily Painters has been a great experience for me to share my work!
