Little Snoopy Oil Painting Still Life Art Christmas Vintage Toy

Oil on archival canvas panel, 6" x 8".  SOLD

This cool "Little Snoopy" toy was found at a estate sale and the painting that resulted was purchased by someone who cherished this toy as a small child. Little Snoopy makes such an interesting and LOUD noise when pulled that my dogs go crazy to get at it. I have to keep it out of their reach or they will surely tear or chew it to pieces. I remember it from the 1960's. Its body, the tip of its tail, and the shoe that it carries are made of wood. Very cool! This would have been a great Christmas toy back then.

I admired the lovely markings and friendly face of this pony who was doing her duty giving kids a ride at a festival. She was decked out in a bright purple halter, lead rope and saddle blanket. She also had some blonde and rusty shades mixed in with the grey hairs of her thick mane which I tried to capture faithfully. I guess just because I found them attractive!

The 3/4" sides are painted so framing is optional!

Cherries and Light Oil Still Life Painting Organic Fruit Kitchen Art

Oil on canvas hardboard, 6" x 8"

I used only a few ingredients in making this painting - bright sunlight, a white bowl and a few cherries.  The shapes of the cherries' shadows became another visual ingredient to be enjoyed too.  The dark red cherries glow a brighter red in the light and colors bounce around in the mix with the bowl.  I like to bake tasty things, but painting the ingredients is more fun and rewarding.  And the result lasts longer.

I've painted my pug, Mabel many times over the last fifteen years and she always has great expressions.  This painting was done from a photo of her being held by a child and she's looking at the camera like a good model.  I painted only her and she looks like she's shrugging with one shoulder with her fat rolls pushed up to one side. Her expression was either one of great enthusiasm or great superiority I thought!

Calla Bloom Oil Painting Lilly Still Life Flower Art Botanical Garden

I'll have to admit that I was inspired to paint a Calla Lilly again after I saw a friend's entry to one of our local art center's annual competitions.  My Calla is different as far as the color of  bloom and background and also hers is a large watercolor and mine is a smaller, intimate oil.  I saw the fun (in my mind) of painting a tall white bloom against a dark background.  Colors bounce around in the light and create interest among the white tones.  The Calla Lilly stalks are sturdy and their blooms display intricate, sensual forms. They always make great subjects to experiment with and learn from .  So, thanks, Jeanette, for reminding me of these beauties!

The apples seem to take on their own unique characters when posed this way and viewed from slightly below.  They can be looked at as actors on a stage or groups involved in conversations if I use my imagination.  I had initially planned to keep the work looser and casual, but paintings sometimes seem to take on their own energy and purpose as many artists have found.  I am satisfied with the apples' finished "characters" in this piece.  That's always a good feeling.
