Lemon Glow Oil Painting Still Life Art Fruit
It's fun to get a "shimmery" effect on objects in the light and a lemon makes a great model.

It felt good to do another yummy dessert painting. I have never painted cheesecake before and it has really interesting texture and color. A thick, shiny cherry topping is always a pleasure. I think it has a certain elegance.

Group of Pears Oil Fruit Still Life Painting Garden Kitchen Food
Oil on stretched canvas, 11" x 14" x 3/4".
Pears are always interesting to paint because their shapes resemble characteristics of the human form. These multi-colored pears really glowed when their forms were brightly lit in this setting. This painting has staple-free sides that are painted if you'd like to hang it unframed.

Cherries on a Tree Oil Still Life Painting Fruit Food Tree Leaves
I have painted rainier cherries in the past, and now I think they are even more fascinating to paint hanging from the branches of their trees. The long stems glow along with the cherries in their natural surrounding.

Purple Plums in White Bowl Oil Painting Still Life Art Tree Fruit
These dark plums in a white bowl and warm background presented a great combination to paint. Purple fruit and shades of orange/burnt sienna are simply perfect together.

Lemon Wrap Oil Painting Still Life Art Citrus Fruit
This is the second in a series of lemons/fruit wrapped in tissue. In this one, I "spun the color wheel" which I feel added more drama along with more movement of lines and shapes.

Fall Apples Oil Still Life Painting Garden Fruit Organic Traditional Art
Oil on Raymar panel, 6" x 8".
I didn't know the name of these little red and yellow-green apples I painted but I was attracted to their wonderful mingling of colors and their stems with drying leaves still attached. It was interesting to paint them in a subdued and traditional manner and their forms disappearing into the background.

Cherries and Light Oil Still Life Painting Organic Fruit Kitchen Art
I used only a few ingredients in making this painting - bright sunlight, a white bowl and a few cherries. The shapes of the cherries' shadows became another visual ingredient to be enjoyed too. The dark red cherries glow a brighter red in the light and colors bounce around in the mix with the bowl. I like to bake tasty things, but painting the ingredients is more fun and rewarding. And the result lasts longer.

Grapes in Cut Glass Oil Painting Kitchen Art Still Life Food Fruit
This painting was an attempt to catch the glow of a cluster of grapes lit brightly by the sun. The cut-glass bowl was an added element that really helped the composition I think. I loved the red and yellow shades of these purple grapes.

Sunlit Fruit Still Life Oil Painting Still Life Fruit Art Vase Kitchen Decor
I painted this still life from photos I took at a Barry Thomas workshop I attended earlier this year. We did quick small studies of these brightly lit subjects which were spread out on a large table. I may paint a larger version of this. I love the glowing effect and intense color.
