Oil on stretched canvas. 12" X 16".
Kune Kune pigs are small, friendly creatures similar to Pot-bellied pigs. They are commonly kept as pets in New Zealand and the UK. They usually have two wattles hanging from their lower jaw. They're intelligent and easy to train. This painting was a commissioned piece.

Boomer Oil Painting Dog Art Pet Portraits Miniature Schnauzer Commission
Oil on stretched canvas 8" x 10" x 3/4".
Boomer was a commissioned piece from a while back. I liked his ears and messy, under-cover expression. This breed is so sweet I think!

Cape Glossy Starling Oil Painting Bir Art Fowl Wildlife Exotic
Oil on canvas hardboard, 6" x 8".
This bird is a glossy starling and is a South African native. It was a playful painting for me. The striking blue-green metallic feathers along with his yellow eyes were intriguing. And the best part was his quirky shadow! These starlings are frequent visitors to gardens and feeders where they live.

Rose Bouquet Oil Still Life Flower Vase Garden Impressionist Red Pink Purple
Oil on canvas panel, 12" x 9".
This painting is from a few years ago and was sold to one my most wonderful collectors. Thanks, Lynn!
I'm exploring new approaches to flower painting with an impressionist feel and I like the way in which these roses and vase came together as a painting. I kept the brushstrokes simple and the colors seem to vibrate with the gold tones throughout the pinks and purples. I also used thicker paint in describing the shapes of the leaves and blooms.

Sally Oil Painting Dog Art Pet Portraits Daschund Commission
Oil on stretched canvas, 10" x 8"
Sally is a chocolate Daschund and I think she looks stunning in the sunlight surrounded by greenery in this painting. She's a curious dog and has fun both inside and out. The heart-shaped leaves of the vines in her yard made a nice background for her portrait.

Red Onions and Garlic Oil Still Life Painting Organic Vegetables Kitchen Art Glass Bottle
Oil on canvas hardboard, 10" x 8"
I really wanted the title of the painting to include "green bottle" but that would be too long I thought. The things I enjoyed were the strong light falling across the onions and garlic and also the many reflections and shapes in the green glass bottle. This was definitely a fun piece, but it was one of those paintings that I feel I had included too many details and wasn't what I had envisioned when I started.

Begonia Blooms Oil Painting Flower Art Still Life Botanical Garden
Watercolor on watercolor canvasboard, 8.75" x 11".
I kept watch over my begonia bulb after planting it in a pot and made sure it received plenty of shade so that I could finally enjoy its beautiful leaves and blooms. My attention to it paid off with these delicately-colored flowers. I decided to paint them in watercolor on the watercolor canvas I've been experimenting with for some time. The watercolor paint can be applied in puddle-like forms to make the shapes of the composition which I find interesting. And many layers can be built up if I'm careful not to disturb the layers underneath with a heavy hand. I sprayed the painting with clear acrylic so that it doesn't need to be framed under glass like watercolors on paper must be framed.

Bee Among Azaleas Oil Painting Flower Art Still Life Garden Honey Bee Insects
Oil on canvas hardboard, 9" x 12"
An artist friend photographed a wonderful image of a bee busy at work on a cluster of pink azalea petals. It became one of many challenge images to paint in our artist group. The mediums used were oil, watercolor and colored pencil. This oil painting was my contribution. I love the translucent wings of the bee covering the azalea bloom. I still haven't painted the bowl of lemons that the others have finished.
