"Lazy Summer"
Oil on stretched canvas, 8" x 10" x 3/4".
I had stopped by a pasture to take photos of some beautiful cows and one of the brown cows started to get up when she saw me. They were resting among some tall shade trees and looked very contented with themselves and their world.
This painting is on a canvas that is stapled in the back and the sides are painting making it ready to hang unframed if desired.

Wanderlust Watercolor Painting Pug Dog Pet Art
"Wanderlust"
Watercolor on paper, 12" x 10".
I like the look of strong sunlight washing out objects in its path as it floods a room. This was the case when I saw my pug, Mabel, stretching up as far as she could to peer through a window. The dreamy quality of this type of watercolor is attractive to me. I had started this painting almost a year ago and left it after I got "stuck" on a problem. I came across it the other day and decided to finish it the way I had envisioned it the first time.

Portrait Study of Brooke Oil Painting Blonde Young Woman Figure
"Portrait Study of Brooke"
Oil on canvas board, 12" x 9".
I painted this portrait from a live model in my portrait painting class. It was exciting to work on getting the basics of her form and features (shapes!) down as quickly as possible and to see the values and patterns of light. Then I finished the painting later, working on problem areas and making her more pleasing to the eye. I was happy with the result.

Impatiens and Kitty Watercolor Painting Pet Cat Art Flowers Kitten
"Impatiens and Kitty"
Watercolor and guache on Ampersand Aquaboard, 5" x 7".
I had sketched our kitten, Chloe, enjoying the planter containing my pink and purple Impatiens. Later, I painted this with watercolor and guache on an Ampersand Aquaboard sample that I had received. It took a while to get adjusted to working with watercolor on this surface, but eventually I built it up with enough layers of paint and I liked the result. It is finished with a clear acrylic coating, so it can be framed without glass.

Distracted Cavalier Spaniel Watercolor Dog Pet Art King Charles
"Distracted"
Watercolor on Arches paper, 12.5" x 10.25" .
I have painted this King Charles Spaniel many times. In this one, he was lying in the grass with a chew bone and looking away intently while a breeze fanned out some of his hair. He may try to appear very serious at times, but that puppy-dog look is still there.
If you'd like to commission a painting please contact me.

Young Woolly Cow Oil Painting Farm Animal Art
"Young Woolly Cow"
Oil on stretched canvas, 12" x 12" x 3/4".
This was a commissioned painting of one of my cow paintings. I took photos of some curious cows with interesting white markings. They still had their thick winter coats and the bright sunlight made highlights on their "furry" bodies. I have to admit it - I love painting cows.

Abbey Pencil Drawing Silky Terrier Graphite Pet Portrait Dog Art
"Abbey"
Pencil on paper, 14.5" x 10.5".
This graphite portrait of a Silky Terrier is one of my favorites. Her face is bathed in sunlight as those dark eyes are peering through the long, silver hair of her forhead. Abbey was often seen sitting this way in her favorite chair, a Bentwood rocker, and looking out of the window. This drawing was included in 2004 in the annual competition, Art Show at the Dog Show, in Wichita, Kansas.
I've been busy working on a commissioned cow painting and looking forward to finishing it and showing my client the result. I will also be putting the finishing touches on a portrait painting done from a live model that I plan to show here on my blog. There has been a lot of quality painting time for me lately!
