I can't resist taking photos of colorful fish wherever I happen to see them.  These goldfish were swimming in a very long aquarium that separated two rooms in a large, open house.  I thought it was a great room divider and fun to watch!

A small herd of donkeys provided me with several interesting photos of them and their donkey behavior.  This girl was letting loose with a loud bray.  I like the way she scrunches up her face while she's expressing herself.  I also enjoyed painting her shaggy winter coat.

A faithful climbing rose produced a large amount of blooms this year and I decided to use a clipping as a subject in my studio.  This pink variety is declicate and attractive at the same time.  I wanted to simplify the strokes and get to the essence of the rose with stem and petals.

Mourning Light Oil Painting Bird Portrait Dove Wildlife

A mourning dove was sunbathing on a deckrail and made a striking backlit figure.  I loved the way the dove's head looked against the bright colors of the landscape, but I was also intrigued by the subtle blue/grey feathers underneath her wing.  These birds are always welcome ground-feeders at our home.

I painted this too late for Valentine's Day but that's okay.  Instead of a single rose, I used these beautiful shrub roses as models.  These red, pink and white varieties are actually landscape roses and are low-maintenance.  I love their layered look and frilly yellow centers.  Playful!

I reworked an older painting that I did. I had painted this multi-colored fluffy cat on a windowsill with his shadow falling on a red tablecloth. I livened up some of the color in the background and softened the contrast of the shadow on the red cloth. This guy has the comfortable attitude of a cat enjoying his home.
