Magnolia Still Life Oil Painting Southern Flower Trees

"Magnolia Still Life"

Oil on stretched back-stapled canvas 12" x 9" x 3/4". Sides are painted

I snipped a Magnolia bloom with some leaves and brought it inside for a still life. It faded very quickly so I worked from photos. I had planned to keep the painting looser, but this is what resulted. I found myself working on the shadows and details. Maybe it's really because I'm a little too compulsive and can't stop myself from working on refining things. This painting seemed to have a flow so I will probably do more from my photos. Wow, the ease of adding another layer of color mixture to an oil painting is an exciting thing indeed!
