Trebol Jack Russell Terrier Oil Painting Dog Pet Art

"Trebol"

Oil on stretched canvas, 8" x 10" x 3/4".

Trebol was a commissioned portrait and it was a pleasure to paint him. He is a beautiful Jack Russell with an expressive face (and great ears!)

Walking Path Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting Carol Ann Cross Park

"Walking Path"

Oil on canvas board, 6" x 8.

This landscape was one of two that I painted one day last week with a plein air group as I am getting back to doing these outdoor painting adventures again. Of course, the rules include painting quickly and fearlessly. Our leader, artist Patricia Lappin, expects us to measure up, so we try out best. I did work on this painting just a little more at home and made the sky and water less busy.

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend!

Fawn Pug Pencil Drawing Graphite Pet Art Portrait

"To the Point"

Pencil on archival paper, 14" x 11".

I drew this pencil portrait of a pug prior to painting her in watercolor. The wide stripe down her back gets narrow as it goes down her tail and almost disappears. Then it reappears in full view at the tip of her tail.

I had a great workout painting with a plein aire group yesterday and I'm planning to post at least one painting next week from my attempts and some photos of us hard at work.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Cat inTube Oil Painting Animal Pet Portrait Art

"Stuffy"

Oil on stretched canvas, 10" x 8" x 3/4".

Stuffy was found as a stray and had many physical abnormalities which included very short legs and an enormous tongue that hung out all of the time. The kids' tube was a favorite place for her. Stuffy was described by her owners as adorable. She lived to be about 20 years old and was loved very much, of course!

Silky Terrier Oil Painting Commissioned Pet Art Portrait

"Tobey"

Oil on stretched canvas, 14" x 11" x 3/4".

This is a commissioned painting of Tobey, a beautiful silver/fawn-haired Silky Terrier, from Australia. He had those lovely bright eyes with bangs framing his face like the typical Silky. Silky Terriers originated from Australia as a cross between the Yorky Terrier and the Australian Terrier. Their ears are clipped inside and out to keep this look (their ears are so soft). I had one of these little sprites years ago - in case you didn't already assume that! Tobey's mom said he was camera-shy. Mine was a show-off. I wish I had taken more (and better) photos of her though.

White Peony Oil Painting Flowers Botanical Art

"Mother's Peonies"

Oil on stretched canvas, 8" x 6" x 3/4".

Our Daily Painters' theme for May is Mothers and I painted my white peonies as a celebration of Mother's Day because my mother loved them as much as I do. I took several photos of them in full and partial bloom right before the heavy rains came (again) and lowered their heads. I think the buds are gorgeous with their crimson red and light green shades tightly holding in the white and pink pink-tinged petals.
The 3/4" sides are painted making framing optional.

Black Pug Oil Painting Dog Pet Art Portrait

"Pug Chin-Up"

Oil on board, 11" x 14".
This painting was included in the annual competition, Art Show at the Dog Show, in Wichita, Kansas this year. Maddie's expressive face is sometimes fascinating and always honest. She was using my old piano bench as a chin rest to bathe in the sunlight. I adopted Maddie as a frightened three-year-old rescue Pug. She is now my smart and loving darling.
